Why postcards make great gifts ...
*Vintage and collectible postcards make terrific gifts. Anybody can go out and buy a gift card for somebody, and usually it is pretty impersonal with very little thought involved. Now imagine opening a gift and seeing an antique postcard showing the hospital where you were born, the high school or college you attended, the building your mother or father worked in, the church where your parents were married, etc. What a pleasant surprise and hey, what do you know … the person giving the gift actually put some thought into it!
*So your grandma has always wanted to see Italy, but as much as you’d like to, you can’t quite afford to pay for that trip? Now, picture her face when she opens her gift and sees a nicely framed beautiful old postcard from Italy with a note saying “Wish I could send you over there, but this is all I can do for now …”.

*I usually pass out old holiday postcards to the neighborhood kids for whatever occasion it is … an old Easter postcard on Easter, an old birthday postcard on their birthday, etc. Most of the other birthday cards they receive (you know, the cute little Hallmark cards with the funny dog on front) get grouped together and set aside. However, they always want to know more about the postcard (How old is it? What is this postmark on back mean? Where did you get it?) and most of these kids hold onto all of these postcards and have their own little collection going now. On more than one occasion I have forgotten someone’s birthday and the next day they’re asking me where their postcard was. It’s really cute and the postcards actually mean something to these kids.
*A friend of mine’s daughter was graduating from the University of Virginia. The problem: her brother didn’t know what to get her as a graduation gift. The solution: three postcards with different views of the University of Virginia campus in a beautiful frame with three display windows. Of all the graduation gifts she received, there is only one hanging in her new office. Want to guess which one?
*I have a thousand more stories like these (most from customers), but I’m guessing you’re getting the point by now. Postcards make wonderful, thoughtful gifts and don’t cost an arm and a leg.
Almost all of the postcards I sell are standard sized postcards that measure approx 3 1/2” x 5 1/2” and fit beautifully into a standard 4” x 6” frame. If a postcard on my website is not a standard sized postcard it will be clearly noted on the item page.
